En 1955 el Comité de Actividades Antiestadounidenses de la Cámara de Representantes de Estados Unidos, encargado de "identificar elementos anarquistas y subversivos" llamó a declarar, entre otros, al cantautor Pete Seeger. Ese momento oscuro de su carrera y su vida fue el detonante para que Seeger escribiese esta canción protesta, Where Have All the Flowers Gone.
Este tema antibelicista se convirtió en un éxito mundial, y se ha versionado en otros idiomas.

Ha sido versionada entre otros, por Peter, Paul and Mary, The Searchers, Bobby Darin, The Four Seasons, Marlene Dietrich, Brian Hyland, Harry Belafonte, Joan Báez, Earth, Wind and Fire, Olivia Newton-John, Chris de Burgh o Jimmy Somerville.
